David SchulerAbout David Schuler

Active as an actor, director and lecturer, Mr. Schuler has over 15 years experience as a performer in musicals, opera and drama. Favorite leading roles include Mozart in Amadeus; Poppy/David in The Voice of the Prairie; Jenik in The Bartered Bride; David Klein in Bitter Friends; and Prue’s Alter Ego in The Quilling of Prue. As a director, Mr. Schuler has worked on Shakespeare, musicals and world premiere dramas in New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Indiana and Norway. He has taught theatre at the University of Binghamton and the University of Colorado, where he is currently completing a Ph.D. in Theatre. As part of his doctoral research, Mr. Schuler spent seven months north of the Arctic Circle in northern Norway working with the Saami (Lapp) National Theatre. Upon recommendation of the Norwegian Consular General, he has received invitations to speak, at the Chautauqua Institute, Middfest International and SUNY-Brockport as an expert on Saami and Norwegian culture. Mr. Schuler is currently working on an adaptation and translation of Ibsen’s epic drama Brand, made possible by a generous grant from the Indiana Humanities Council.

Schuler’s interest in Robert Burns began a few years ago when he was asked to read some of Burns’ poetry at a local Robert Burns’ birthday celebration. Over the last two years he has continued to develop the character, and he is continually amazed at the depth of beauty, understanding and irreverence of the musings of Scotland’s most beloved poet. Along with Mr. Burns, Schuler also performs his one-man historical portrayal of John Adams for schools, colleges, and community and arts organizations throughout the eastern United States.

Mr. Schuler lives in Rochester, New York with his wife, Carolyn, where they enjoy cooking, travel, photography, soccer and foreign films in their spare time.
